The Dental Filling Process

Jul 25, 2018

Have you been told that you are suffering from dental decay and have a cavity? Wondering what exactly to expect during your dental filling treatment? At the practice of Dr. Jeff Levman, we strive to make sure our patients are educated and informed when it comes to their care. Today we’re going to discuss the process for receiving a dental filling, we hope you enjoy and learn something new!

Applying the Local Anesthetic

Your comfort is extremely important to us, prior to receiving treatment we will apply a local anesthetic to the area. First a numb gel is used, then a needle will be used to inject the anesthetic, leaving you without pain during your treatment.

Preparing the Mouth

Once the area nearby the tooth is effectively numbed, your dentist will begin preparing your mouth for the treatment. A rubber dam or bite block may be used to help keep your mouth open comfortably.

Removing the Decay

The next step is removing the decay, bacteria and any infection that may be present in the tooth. A suction tool is also used during the procedure to remove debris and water from your mouth, another suction tool is used to remove saliva and ensure no debris is swallowed.

Placing the Filling

The final step is placing the filling material, sculpting it and ensuring it looks appealing while providing protection from any additional decay. Our ultimate goal is to make sure your filling blends seamlessly with your smile.
